Women and male professional runners, politicians, MPLs, physically challanged, young and old took part in this year`s Mandela Day Marathon in Howick.
Women 42Km winers were Chiyedza Chokore from Zimbabwe was on position one, Lizih Chokore was on position two and Catherine Skosana from South Africa was on position three.
MEC of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Ms Nomusa Dube received the women winners as part of women`s month celebration.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It is with great excitement and humility that the Organising Committee of the Mandela Day Marathon announces that the entries for the 2018 edition of the Mandela Day Marathon (MDM) have officially closed with a record 20,000 committed participants.<\/p>\n

The entry cap was reached a short while ago, necessitating the closure of the entry process.<\/p>\n

The 7th<\/sup>\u00a0edition of the Mandela Day Marathon takes place on Sunday, 26 August 2018. The event is once again expected to boost the uMgungundlovu District and KwaZulu-Natal economy by millions of rand in tourism revenue.<\/p>\n

The 2018 theme is\u00a0\u201c#Keep Running the Legacy\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Organising Committee Spokesperson Lennox Mabaso said: \u201cWe are extremely delighted with the level of enthusiasm and excitement demonstrated by athletes in participating in the Mandela Day Marathon.\u00a0This marathon is like no other as it is about the\u00a0\u201ctriumph of the human spirit\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0This year is a centenary celebration and all runners are assured of memorable experience in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n

MDM Race Director Johan Van Staden said: \u201cThe preparations are now in full swing to deliver a successful marathon in honour of our iconic leader. The Mandela Day Marathon contributes hugely to the local economy of the Midlands and the entire KwaZulu-Natal region due to the ever-increasing number of participants in several events, including the 42.2km main marathon, MTB Dash and Trail running.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Staden added that \u201cthe uMgungundlovu District and Msunduzi Municipalities welcome athletes from all over the country, as well as the rest of Africa and internationally\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mabaso has thanked all entrants for getting their entries in on time. The 2018 Mandela Day Marathon will start at the Manaye Hall in Imbali and finish at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick on Sunday, 26 August 2018.<\/p>\n
