KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has taken the drastic step of using its constitutional prerogative to dissolve the Nquthu municipal council elected during last year\u2019s local government elections because of its protracted failure to elect office bearers, including a mayor and a speaker, due to political infighting. Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube made the announcement to members of the media in the press briefing at Mayville in Durban on 12.02.17<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has condemned the brazen armed robbery at her department’s offices in Mayville this morning when unknown assailants entered the premises and pointed firearms at security guards on duty.<\/p>\n

The assailants then proceeded to ransack offices and steal computers, laptops and TV screens. One of the department\u2019s employees was also hijacked at gunpoint by the assailants. The employee’s stolen vehicle was later recovered in Newlands.<\/p>\n

Dube-Ncube has expressed her shock and outrage at this incident which put many lives at risk. \u201cThis incident could have easily resulted in a loss of life. The brazen nature of the incident is truly astounding and the harshest of penalties need to be meted out to its perpetrators,\u201d said Dube-Ncube.<\/p>\n

The MEC has also urged community members with information that can lead to the arrest of perpetrators to come forward. Those who have been affected by this incident are now receiving counselling. A case has been opened with the South African Police Services.<\/p>\n
