The victims of disaster and needy community members were assisted with groceries and electric appliances during the community engagement event at Ephakathini, ward 7 in Umhlabuyalingana.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>It is full steam ahead for the rollout of conductors in some of the most lightning prone areas in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. This was announced today by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube when she met with residents of eMphakathini in Ward 7, in the uMhlabuyalingana local municipality.<\/p>\n<p>The visit by Dube-Ncube to this municipality, which is in the uMkhanyakude district, is part of her department&#8217;s Disaster Awareness Campaign aimed at reducing the number of incidents in this area. Since last January, the district experienced close to 300 incidents which include flash floods, lightning strikes, strong winds, wild fires and heavy rains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a department, we saw it fit that we come to this district to educate residents about the importance of taking heed of warnings issued by the department and weather authorities.
