Purpose:<\/strong> The Youth Environmental Service (YES) Programme aims to:<\/p>

  • Promote sustainable development and conservation of natural resources.<\/li>
  • Protect and improve the quality and safety of the environment.<\/li>
  • Prevent and reduce environmental pollution and waste.<\/li>
  • Continuously improve the atmosphere and air quality.<\/li>
  • Create suitable conditions for sustainable growth and development.<\/li><\/ul>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    Implementation Goals:<\/strong> The programme instills a culture of pride and ownership towards environmental management. It falls under the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP)<\/strong>, which has significantly contributed to poverty alleviation and job creation in KwaZulu-Natal<\/strong>. The YES programme is especially beneficial to rural areas<\/strong> that are conducive to agricultural-driven projects.<\/p>

    Target and Benefits:<\/strong><\/p>

    • Primary Target:<\/strong> Youth are the main beneficiaries and agents of the programme.<\/li>
    • Skills Development:<\/strong> Youth will gain scarce skills needed to improve the economy through:
      • Farming and permaculture<\/li>
      • Tree planting, fostering nature, and promoting environmental well-being for future generations<\/li>
      • Eradication of alien vegetation to enhance ecological integrity<\/li>
